Wait What? Audio. or Wait. What Audio?
If you’ve ever slipped a pair of IEMs into your ears, listened to your favorite track, and thought, “Wait… what? How does it sound this good/bad?” Welcome! Welcome to Wait What Audio, a brand-new space dedicated entirely to the fascinating world of IEMs, portable audio, and the science of acoustics. Whether you are a seasoned audiophile with a drawer full of multi-driver monitors, a music lover looking for your first budget upgrade, or someone curious about how sound actually works, we are thrilled to have you here. As graduate students of acoustics, and also musicians in the past, we want to try to merge together the technical and the artistic world of sound here. We created Wait What Audio to break down the barrier between complex acoustic science and pure musical enjoyment. We want to answer the “why” and the “how” behind the gear you love, while keeping things accessible, fun, and honest.
What to Expect
Moving forward, this blog will be your go-to hub for a variety of audio content, including: • Deep Dives into Acoustics: We’ll demystify the science of sound. From understanding how tuning nozzles alter frequency response to how sound waves behave inside your ear canal, we’re going to explore the physics of audio in a way that actually makes sense. • IEM Discussions & Insights: We will talk about trends in the industry, what makes certain gear stand out, and how to get the absolute best performance out of your in-ear monitors. • Guides & Explaners: New to the hobby? We’ve got you covered with straightforward guides on everything from choosing the right ear tips to understanding how to read a frequency response graph. Join the Conversation! An audio community is only as good as the people in it. We want Wait What Audio to be an open, collaborative space. Take a look around, bookmark the page, and get ready for a lot of exciting content coming your way very soon. If there is a specific acoustics topic you’ve always wanted broken down, or a burning question you have about IEMs, let us know in the comments or reach out to us!
